Erica Hagan is the Executive Director of HEART Community Cord, an agency that provides trauma informed youth programming, employment services, and instructional dance classes. After working in Corporate America as a Manager for 13 years, Erica made a life changing transition into several Social Service roles working with families. While advocating for foster children as a Court Appointed Special Advocate (CASA) with Voices for Children, she also took on Case Management at Covenant House MO working with homeless youth. Erica has a passion for creative art and dance which inspired her to open a dance studio for children and adults looking for both recreation and self-expression. Being a small business owner offered Erica the opportunity to work with families within her community on a personal level in turn exposing her to the need for advocacy on a community level.
Erica graduated from UMSL's Neighborhood Leadership Academy with skills and community awareness that were immeasurable and instrumental in the launch of HEART Community Cord, a family supportive services agency. Shortly after partnering with KIPP Victory elementary and Triumph middle school to provide after school and summer programming she was quickly recognized as a community leader and nominated for the role of West End Neighbors Association President. During Erica’s two-year term as Board President of West End Neighbors Association she identified gaps within the organization and realigned the mission statement and scope of work. Erica also brought a fresh inclusive approach to community meetings that provided West End residents a forum to connect, learn, and work together.
Erica is currently pursuing her master’s degree in Marriage and Family Therapy while advocating for an increase in mental health and family support services within underserved communities. Her passion for serving and strengthening families is at the forefront of her work and driving force behind her continued commitment to community advocacy. Statement of Purpose:
I am honored to have the opportunity to support the Cornerstone mission as the interim Executive Director during Mrs. Keaira Anderson’s maternity leave. My work in the community as the ED of HEART Community Cord is defined by a systematic approach in addressing the needs of families to combat psychosocial conditions. Affordable housing is a necessity and what makes this new season of Cornerstone so pivotal is the direction that Mrs. Anderson’s vision is taking Cornerstone as they serve the West End neighborhood. I am personally aligned with this vision because it addresses the needs of families from a holistic lens and empowers the community in which we live and thrive together. I am excited to offer my most authentic self, project management and organizational development skills in serving and the West End Community! I thank God for the opportunity!
