what?

"Seasons of Wonder Story Times and Storytelling," a literacy initiative to activate West End families and neighborhood partners to spark and sustain a love for reading in our youngest residents.  It is year-long.

why?

Cornerstone CDC understands that economic empowerment requires building our capacity to hope and learn. We see literacy as a part of our economic mobility programming.

•From 2014-2019, 75% of Black third graders in metropolitan St. Louis annually failed in Reading, compared to 51% of all children in Missouri. (Missouri Department of Elementary and Secondary Education, Missouri Assessment Program)

•Students who do not read well by third grade have four times more likely to drop out of school than proficient readers. (Children of Metropolitan St. Louis: A Data Book for the Community).

Moreover, healing the land requires hope, and that hope requires an active imagination.
